Instructional Design

Using Finks 3 column table and a backwards design approach, I designed a five module personal narrative unit titled, Tell it Like a Story, Crafting True Stories for 3rd graders. It is a blended learning model with fifty percent asynchronous and fifty percent synchronous. The LMS learners will use is Google Classroom. Teachers will facilitate the writing lessons and then students will complete assignments and activities through the LMS. The LMS will have many scaffolds and supports for students during the writing process. Teachers will confer with students while other students are writing and completing assignments in the LMS.

In module 5 of the course, students will publish their stories through a podcast. Students will have an opportunity to listen to each others stories. This module is project based learning. This course reflects my innovation plan, Project Based Learning, Meet Blended Learning.

Writing can be a challenge for students. Providing students with supports in the LMS can help them through the process and to help students take control of the learning and to find their voice. The PBL will create community for learners to motivate towards a common goal and to share their stories.

In the instruction design video, I introduced the plan and outline for the course. In the implementation video, I introduced the first 2 modules with the teacher led portion and the LMS. I introduced the start here portion of the course.

For the usability testing, I had colleagues provide feedback and suggestions on improvements of the course. I am looking forward to completing the next 3 modules of the course and piloting this with my team and the 3rd graders this Fall.
