A blank canvas can sometimes be intimidating because it is the beginning. A canvas becomes easier to work with once some paint is on it, which requires beginning. Sometimes beginning is the hardest part. In the video about eportfolios, Dr. Tilisa Thibodeaux compared the eportfolio to a canvas of opportunity. This really resonated with me. It is an opportunity to find your voice.
Dr. Harapnuik said that voice is realized through eportfolio. This made me go back to the COVA ebook to read chapter 11 on voice. The part about getting comfortable with your voice was relatable. A student shared how it was not comfortable at first. As an introvert, I enjoy writing, it is the sharing part I have to get comfortable with. However, I understand that personal reflection should be shared with others. There was value in the student sharing his experience because I could truly hear his voice.
What I really want to know is who are you, who, who? Your voice is a true reflection of who you are and an eportfolio is a great place to find it. It is worth the investment.
Why eportfolio? Who doesn’t want a canvas of opportunity? A canvas to find your voice and create a space for your work is an amazing opportunity for growth.
In the article, Beneath the Cobblestones, A Domain of One’s Own, Audrey Waters says that a domain of one’s own highlights the importance of learner agency, learning in public, control over one’s digital identity, and the increasing importance of Web literacies.
Ownership, choice and agency are very similar. Agency is the capacity of individuals to act independently and to make their own free choices. Voice and ownership work symbiotically to create one’s digital identity.
The domain, all the content, and work can be taken with you. It is yours. That is ownership to me.
